Sunset Katwijk
This painting captures the essence of the sun, the sea and the coastline of Katwijk. At the bottom you see the Old Church, the Lighthouse and the orange glow of the roof tiles of the fishermen's cottages. With somewhere still small the tanned, brown sail of a fishing boat coming home. The painter uses a coarse brushstroke to depict the majesty of the sun, the mighty coloured and expressive skies and the great sea. These elements, which are of a completely different order than humans, emphasise how small we are and our modest role in the greatness of creation and Creator. In his work, Schaap searches for the balance between expression and impression, in which he focuses on the power and beauty of the natural world and also reads a spiritual lesson in it.

Beach life
Katwijk is a village with a deep-rooted religious tradition and a strong connection to the beach and the sea. It all comes together in this painting. The combination of the blue skies and the beach also symbolizes the duality between the hard work of the fishermen and the relaxation of the beach tourism that emerged later. This is another special painting.

Relaxing on the beach
The image of this painting radiates a calm, peaceful colorfulness that fits perfectly with the memories of the carefree summers of the painter's youth. Playing under the sun and in the shadow of the church where the Word is. It gives peace and relaxation. This painting also invites you to stand still, to escape the hustle and bustle for a moment, and to also explore those deeper layers of peace and meaning that are so essential for a fulfilled life. It is more than just a work of art; it is a visual invitation to inner reflection and peace.

At the waterfront
Cosiness and relaxation at the waterfront. The painter wants to say: 'At the beach it is quickly good to stay, just as moments of rest can also be enjoyed in between'. This work in a relaxed atmosphere, is deliberately set up in a calm tone with the colours blue and red/purple. There is movement in it and evokes enough fantasy to enjoy it and to give it further meaning yourself. Schaap sees it as an honour that his work is part of the personal living spaces of people and that he can enrich it with his paintings.

A sunny day
This work, deliberately constructed with a sunny colour palette, reflects the indispensability of the sun. We need it, both physically and mentally. This painting is an invitation to dream away to those refreshing days at the beach, to feel the warmth of the sun and the invigorating water, even when you are not physically by the sea. It is an evocative representation of an ideal summer day in which everything comes together for a moment of rest and relaxation. The fresh surf completes the atmosphere.
