Motivation

Artist's statement

Art opens doors that reach beyond galleries, studios, exhibitions, or auctions. Behind every work, I seek above all the human being—the soul, the emotion, and the spirit from which something arises. What drives an artist to make precisely that visible? In such encounters, conversations can emerge that deepen and enrich, just as with Paul in Athens, when he paused at the altar to the unknown God.

Light and color have always held a special place in my life, precisely because shadow presented itself early on. Even before the age of twenty, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, and later with severe diabetes and a heart condition requiring an ICD/pacemaker. The sun did not always shine, but precisely because of that, I have come to appreciate the warmth of the light all the more.

In art, there is space for me to express myself and to connect with others. Spiritually, I have become convinced that the true Source of light and color lies outside ourselves—in the Great Artist. From His Light there is forgiveness and life. In following and trusting, there is loving and coloring existence with warmth for the Creator, for our fellow man, and for the world around us.

My paintings emerge from surrender and motivation, often by the coast, where light, beach, and sea come together with the cheerful colors of relaxation. This inspires me to create fleeting, joyful work that nevertheless lasts longer and has an impact even in dark times. My wish is that the paintings evoke a sense of recognition, joy, color, and warmth in the viewer…
