The sunny
beach and seascapes by the Impressionist
Cor Schaap

Cor Schaap (1968) comes from a family of fishermen and was born in Katwijk aan Zee. For many years, the coast has been the central theme in his beach and seascapes, which he paints in a classical to post-impressionist style on canvas and panel.

His work is characterized by a bright, sunny appearance and a strong attention to atmosphere and light. In his recent paintings, Schaap consciously opts for loose brushstrokes and a subtle palette of sand tones, aquas, and soft pastels. In doing so, he captures the characteristic atmosphere of the Dutch coast in a unique and recognizable way. Figures are often present only in a sketchy form, creating space for interpretation and experience.

Cor Schaap works both outdoors and in his studio by the sea. His work is sold from the studio, at Handmade Mary's in the center of Katwijk, and at Galerie Gabriëls at Noordeinde 103 in The Hague, an established address within the Dutch art world since 1974.
